The REVIEWS are coming in...

"I thoroughly enjoyed reading Zoe's book about a great American. The book's done with a tremendous amount of love and passion, and that comes through in her writing. I highly recommend it" - Red Steagall Cowboy Poet & Entertainer

Who could forget the looming presence of Will Sampson’s character in the classic One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. William "Sonny" Sampson was a scene-stealer - on screen and in life. He was a Muscogee Creek Indian, an actor and artist. His long time assistant and secretary, Zoe Escobar spent years contacting and collecting images of his art and life in her book, Beyond Cuckoo's Nest, the Art and Life of William Sampson, Jr., and she created a loving family and a significant body of work. Ms. Escobar's fine biography gives us a glimpse of someone who had so much to give and left us too soon. - Bill Reynolds Editor, The Cowboy Way Magazine

It is a beautiful book in every way. - Max Gail

I send you my love and big wows on the book! Congratulations, it's beautiful and I couldn't put it down when we borrowed it! …Paulette Ladouceur-Frisina

Thank you for the Will Sampson book. I actually read it before leaving the beach; couldn’t put it down. You undertook a great mission in collecting the artwork of this gifted individual. You’re willingness to share your knowledge of him, gives all of us a more complete picture of the man and artist, as well as an understanding of how he was wired. A remarkable book. Thank you for it. …Adria Horton

I have to tell you that I absolutely am forever grateful to you for what you've done and for presenting what you had been preserving in such a magnificent manner... the art that is exhibited in your book is priceless to me... if not, pretty much anybody. I never got to REALLY get to know my pops, but I have to be grateful that he touched sooo many lives because it is through their stories that I get a sense of who he is and what he's all about.. I find it rather strange, though, how similar our lives are in incidents and mannerisms and just the way we live. There is a passage in your book where my dad was told that he could be immortal... and he believed it... well, its true... he found a way to live forever. Either that or he's tryin again thru me.... Well, once again, thank you so much for the beautiful book!!! I will cherish this gift forever! …lumhemicco

Got my book!!! Haven't had time to read all of it... just read parts. Mom said you did good! I let her read the note you sent, she barely read the first line and had to pause... she read the rest thru tears. Soooo many memories are in my mind and on my heart! I can hear dad's voice, see his gestures and feel his "stare" when I was looking thru the book. What a life he lived...

You did good! The cover was great, everything looks great. I'm glad and happy that you got to spend more time with dad thru this process. You have given us (the kids) sooo much! I love you, Zoe! Thank you for doing this
…Pogie
(p.s. - I liked that you spell my name P-O-G-E-Y! Dad always spelled it that way. When I told him that it's spelled P-O-G-I-E, that that was the way mom spelled it, he said "she's wrong!" I looked at him and he grinned, and I laughed!) …Pogey

BEYOND CUCKOO'S NEST

THE ART AND LIFE OF WILLIAM SAMPSON, JR.

By Zoe Escobar

Known for his unforgettable role as Chief Bromden in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, William Sampson, Jr. entertained and moved audiences in numerous films, TV shows, and on stage.

But his most important role was one that he played all his life – that of Indian cowboy and artist.

For the first time ever, fans and Western art enthusiasts can now experience the art and life of

Will "Sonny" Sampson in a beautiful coffee table book, BEYOND CUCKOO'S NEST – THE ART AND LIFE OF WILLIAM SAMPSON, JR.

With photographs of more than 50 paintings and over 70 sketches, the originals of which are in private collections, this poignant book takes the reader on a rare and tender journey, from the three year old boy drawing in the dirt to the 6' 5" Indian actor whose talent and charm influenced many.

"Painting is my life. I am first, last and always a painter." Indeed, Will Sampson claimed that acting supported his painting habit.

Written and compiled by his personal assistant, Zoe Escobar, the book was a long time in the making. "After Sonny’s passing, I boxed up all the research material and sent it to a friend for safekeeping... where it languished for nearly twenty-five years."

Personal stories told by Will, interviews with his family, and Zoe's own personal experiences, together with rare photographs of both art and artist, combine in over 200 glossy pages to create an extraordinary collector's item.
